theres so few people in this community that think outside the box they are accustomed to in the first place. iced makes like #3 as far as i can see.
good post, constructively written and direct. but im not sure calling 1 person out with a subtle "id ban you" and defending it with i said this to NH about three others, including a friend, was in sorts. it read more as a depressive "cant we all get along" with multiple subtle jabs at killa. not saying he didn't earn them. just in conjunction with the "im not staff but i influence them", it isnt helpful when a large scale number of players dislike staff already and call them cheaters from what i've seen. now im writing depressive banter :(

i promoted(on post) a few events that i thought would be fair for everyone hope it helps some.

I appreciate the thought and effort you put into the response. And no, you did not make the list of quotes, but you just did exactly I am identifying as a problem to potential newcomers to the game and community. Some will start or start an attempt of discussion and not long after insults are being thrown around. You included some positives that do occur, but you also did exactly what is not needed when you are trying to grow a community.

I was asked to visit the forums and see the drama. I was asked for an outsiders opinion, and that's what I provided, objectively. You may consider that to be "edgy" but sometimes outside perspective is necessary. Is it in this case, I can't say, but I will offer my opinion as I did, and identified some examples. Did I say everyone is childish? At first, until I read around, where I learned and stated that 95% of the people that post can be civilized and do not hurt the face of the community. It's the extremist that is the source of a lot of the drama. One person named, and I singled him out as I read and typed because he's the type of person that has no qualms about wishing he could physically harm a person he disagrees with over the internet. Redacting this sentence because this actually should be saved for private reporting if the party chooses to do so. That is not the behavior a community needs. If you feel otherwise, that's the lovely thing about opinions: you are entitled to your own.

There are plenty of players that reach out or offer help. That's a good thing, it's a great thing. But again, the purpose is to identify and have the community find a better way to moderate or self govern and limit the hate thrown on the forums, because as an individual of this games community, you are the face of the game. All of you are. Including him.

A temporary ban can be seen as a punishment, or an attempt to point out to that person that that behavior is truly unwarranted and unwanted. Again, refer to the desire to cause physical harm to someone over an online argument, or harassing pages. There are plenty of people that gave me examples as a result of this thread. There are still parents out there that monitor what their children do on the computer. If a parent stumbles across that because they want to research what their children are playing, you can be assured the parent will limit how often their child can play the game. It's a fact of parenthood, many are overzealous in their restrictions and in protecting their children, they go to extremes, more now than ever.

You identified that you are now homies with a lot of people you had problems with. That's great, but you're also established as well as they are. Newcomers will not have the luxury of being established and will be put off by that exact behavior if they face it in-game and on the forums.

If you think my goal is to split you apart, then you wholeheartedly misread my post, or misunderstood any intentions. You are also biased in your response and I can only assume that's why you went the route you did. Many of your posts are respectful, helpful even, and you engage in constructive discussions regarding the future of the game often. However, in regards to this post, you took a 180 from your usual posting because I recommend a ban, publicly to put pressure on NiteHawk to do something to moderate the community, on your friend. A temporary one, at that. The majority of Staff are upset and tired of the drama, but no one is doing anything to curb it.

I find it slightly ironic that you are stating that my behavior is befitting someone who should stay a stranger while being overtly biased against me due to singling out your friend, but I will respond to that. I am a stranger to some in this community. I do not play the game as much as I did two months ago. I am not a stranger to many more, but sometimes a completely detached and unbiased view of the community as a whole is invited and there will always be those that do not like it.

Next time, try not to resort to the insults because you do not like what I had to say. We will probably never be 'homies' but we can have a discussion.

killa, if you can also go without trying to sneak in insults then I'm more than happy to have a discussion with you as well. Butt hurt is the last thing I am as I was asked to give an outside opinion of the drama going on, and there was my extensive two cents worth of it.

I haven't named any others because it'd only influence behaviors. I'd rather people stop being so hateful towards each other publicly and on the forums out of their own volition than do so because they're afraid of repercussions. It was also pointed out to me that perhaps a 30-day temporary ban would be extensive; I can see the point behind that, but it's purely a suggestion and to put pressure on NH to act on the increasing drama rather than be silent. I did not intend to make jabs at killa, but rather pointing out how it is just never ending. Not all quotes are killa, either. Some are from people I respect personally, but they were no better at that time.

I did not intend to say I influence staff; to put it plainly and clearly: I have no control nor influence over Staff. My assistance to NH was regarding the integrity and security of the game executable itself and server. I talk with them when I am on, and I have made it clear to them I'm not their friend, but will do testing for them if they ask or require it.

You do seem like a pretty nice person, and a new-ish one at that. Good on you for sticking around. :)

I'm not perfect, either. Never said I was, and am not trying to act like I am. I just want the game to grow, and to set a precedence that drama and that some of the hateful things that are said here is acceptable is a dangerous path for a game with the potential you have here.

man i wish i had the msgs from said guys brother about the raping him part, id post them up. but i don't save them like other people.

or the 5-10 telegrams i got per day from said guy, but i also deleted them not caring

or the shit said guy said that was seen by 10+ people, but none of us cared as well to save them.

if everyone in staff is sick of me speak up and say something because everytime anyone brings up anything to me about it, its in the sense they enjoyed the drunken stupity and not anything else.

if staff wants me to quit i can do that just ask you don't even have to ban the account. but i felt pretty wanted here and if anyone has something to say speak up about it. ive only been myself since ive been here and I'm pretty sure ive made a lot of friends doing so. some enemies sure, but a lot more friends

I can state that if after everything I have read and been told, that the vast majority, both old and new, do not care and that you are absolutely 100% a great person and a great player, I'd apologize. I will stand by the whole not needing someone who's willing to wish to physically harm someone because of the internet, however, whether you were drunk or not, because there is such a thing as too far. But if I am proven to be completely wrong and the outsider view that I provide is inherently wrong, then I will apologize for singling you out.

My only goal is that the community not put on such a display of hate just because of something that happened in the game, and if there is truly a problem work it out privately, not for the world to see. Some people like to see drama, yes, but save that for when the playerbase has grown solid and there are more than three cliques for someone to move on to if they burn a bridge.

I don't think my behavior is any different on this post than it is in any others. I vote for what I think is better for the game and community before I vote for what is better for myself as a player, and I think the community will stand behind me on that fact. You think I am biased because you want to ban Killa? Absolutely not. I am biased because you want to ban ANYONE, blaming all of the community woes on them, without so much as a warning. Substitute any other player in for the ban instead of Killa, my response doesn't change.

I don't recall insulting you anywhere in my post. I stated that as someone who doesn't play the game, you have no right to act like you know how our community works - which rings into cluelessness. I also pointed out that your behavior in your original post is pretentious, and while you may take that as insult I meant as more that you should be aware of how you come across.

I definitely recognize that you posted publicly to try to pressure NiteHawk into doing something he may not feel comfortable doing AKA laying down a banhammer. Hence why I am responding to say - Hey Chris, doesn't listen to this guy. You're doing a fine job and dropping an underserved banhammer on someone in order to "make an example" is the wrong thing to do because regardless of what Iced says, we are all friends here.

Your approach to this is so bad that I feel like my only option is to fix this the correct way. Instead of sitting on the outskirts of the game pointing fingers at all those who behave in a way I disagree with I am going to approach them directly and have adult discussions. Unlike you, I feel like everyone here is more than capable, and I see a lot of good in our small player base. I am going to lead by example, and coach where I can. Good community leaders influence change, not strangers who think forum "callout" posts is the equivalent of dropping the mic at the end of their performance.

in my personal experience its best to not run a forum directly from the games creator/owner because every forum is full of flames. a secondary party or volunteer could have run the forum for it instead. An email and a wiki with an update board in this sense is far more productive.
i agree that noone wants to read this on forums. It actually gets to the point where players don't even use it anymore. i just feel that NH should have just paged killa and told him directly as opposed to you calling him out over forums. if and indeed you are an adviser this is a post that should have been on a staff only forum board. where staff/admin take the next step and issue a flat warning on this board and follow through with whatever consequences were decided.

well i am atleast glad someone did this. thank you for caring :)

im against bans(mostly perm bans in general), not because banning is awful, it just twists everyones panties up, not to mention if people do quit over it, that's hurtful to this small playerbase. however there is circumstances where "enough is enough" but i feel that should be reserved for ingame violations not forum, because a moderator can just delete whats posted.

If you are willing to protest against a ban of any player, no matter how horrible their behavior and words are to others, you should not have worded it as so:
Vindal wrote:I will stand by my friend, a ban on Killa means I walk too.

You are biased, and that is okay. We all have biases at some point.

There was no pretension, as I stated it's merely my observations and my opinion. I have played the game quite a bit, except not in the last two months. I made an effort to keep my regular characters from being known because I preferred to experience the game, and its community, without the attachment of this name. I am not as clueless as you believe, but I can understand that misconception as I simply have been on hiatus.

My suggestion is to put pressure on NH, yes, and my personal recommendation is the temporary removal of someone that displays that attitude any time someone disagrees with them. I did not say he would take my suggestion, and any pressure he feels, if any, will only go into the actions he chooses to take. Maybe he will disagree with my recommendation and instead give a formal warning directly to him and/or others that their behavior needs to stop? Neither of us can presume to know that he'd outright listen or not, but no matter the what the result is, the fact is that hopefully they will keep a closer watch on harassment and overtly negative public behavior. My word is not law or gold; again, it's my opinion for correction, or at least to open dialogue on how it can or should be handled.

As I've said, from your posting history and what I've heard, you are a positive influence in the game and community. I never once said otherwise, except for what I observed to be attacks against me in response to this thread.

killa wrote:and i thought id point this out as well. me and said person had our best day yet in what id call a breakthrough of our situation. Then one party is lying because it was pointed out to me today, and to avoid drama there is a simple solution: one of you, or both, reach out to one another and ensure the whole situation is resolved and that you two can move forward from there. I hope it is because that's some pretty nasty stuff that went on.

I feel you miss the point; I bring attention to it now, directly and publicly, to work on a way to ensure it stays private in the future. Newcomers do not need to see some of the hateful things that are spouted to one another over a game. It's contradictory but serves a purpose for an end result. A means to an end, while not perfect, has a goal for the future.

I agree, wholeheartedly. That's what should occur in the future, keep it off the public face. I do not have access to Staff forums, and no powers whatsoever aside from being in the Staff guild in-game, and from now on Staff should intervene when it 'goes too far' rather than sit and whine about the increase in drama. Yes, I'm calling them out for their inaction, too. The other benefit of this being public is that there is no way it can be ignored and can be properly addressed in the future.

Terron wrote:im against bans(mostly perm bans in general) ... however there is circumstances where "enough is enough" but i feel that should be reserved for ingame violations not forum, because a moderator can just delete whats posted.

I do not like permabans. I would only recommend a temporary ban to be followed by more permanent if it escalated afterwards. Usually, a temporary ban would correct, or at least prevent, the escalation from occurring next time. I do disagree with the last part, however, because while a moderator could just remove a post or edit the content out, it provides a 'safe haven' for harassment to occur without incurring repercussion.
