Help rolling first characters

I know jack shit about DMs since I don't play mages, but for a brig, your class stats are agility (steal chance vs target intelligence) and intelligence (search resistance, autosneak, eventually traps). In addition, you want endurance for HP, wisdom for magic resistance, and strength for damage, prioritize those to your liking.

I think I've found a race for my Brig, but the question that's irking me is; is 17 intel far too low?

More intelligence will be helpful for staying hidden when people are searching, but 17 should be decent for that unless you're fighting spellcasters. Not sure how useful it'll be for traps when those roll out, but that's what reallocating is for.

Thieves are ass at pvp, so don't expect to do well no matter what your race is. No one knows about traps yet, I went 20 INT on my thief but I'll never bother PVPing on it so maxing INT is easy to do.
