Casters and Weapons

Postby Honzo » Tue Nov 22, 2016 9:17 pm

Do the penetration bonuses increase as the item level increases so that way casters can still gain effectiveness from gear and not just from their base int? It would be a little unfair if other classes that deal physical dmg dealt more damage because their items scaled higher with dmg. Additionally, do the bonuses work on other items like daggers(for necros) or would an item have to be kind of preprogrammed to be like that if it isn't a staff?

Yes, penetration scale with staff and gets better depending on enchants, the item values, etc. Bonuses do not work with daggers and never will, It's preprogrammed into the staff. Any class can use it to increase penetration rate. It also increases duration a bit too.

It's not a set value too, it uses min/max values of the weapon to get a calculation of penetration.

Embers should also increase damage, long as the ember is the same divinity as you.

Wait, so my fire div monk with an ice ember on one staff and earth on the other, doesnt receive anything from those embers being on my weapons since they arent fire div like my monk?

Not sure why, but I figured adding a div to your weapon gives you a slight bonus against npcs and players of that div

Example: My bone staff has an ice ember (1%) aura, figured it gave me 1% more dmg against ice div npc's and players lol

Do staves make a difference for clerics when healing or only for Smite / Ray?

This brings up an interesting point.

We are in a group with a Monk, Cleric, Necro, Sorc, and Pally. Bone staff drops.

Monk needs it cause hes a monk and attacks with staff.
Sorc and Necro need it cause it increases spell penetration.
Cleric and Pally ALSO need it because leveling each of those classes with smite is the current hotness.

Maybe a little too much value placed on staff weapons?

I think it makes it useful if anything. For cleric/pally its just another weapon you could have, but can honestly do wtihout. It shines with high int on a necro and sorc though. I don't think it has any less value then swords for half the classes.
