Cancer is an astrological sign and Aids is the plural form of the word aid, and that means help.
Troll. I am here to create the issues that plague the game, I will push your buttons and like the outcome.

Yes this is what I mean by the ticket system. Keep it unlocked unless it raises complaints. In which we can remove it, which isn't a problem.

Muj: In that sense bitch is also a female dog, but people don't often use it for that meaning when calling someone a bitch. Heres another:
A cock-bell can be a small handbell, a type of wildflower that grows in the spring, and an old English dialect word for an icicle. In any case, it’s derived from coque, the French word for a seashell.

Words can be harmful or good depending on how it's used. It's the context it's in or will be about, not the actual word itself.

I don\t think there will be many issues like this nor would i comply with the far-fetched ones people seem to be spewing out. I also disagree with deleting, a rename would simply be better.

In the end it's only a character name, and often names like that aren't your main. So I.E. leave it as it is but add more racial obvious ones/etc that wouldn't work 100%, then a ticket system on top of that to deal with some of the issue ones. I honestly think if there's a handful of people who are upset about something we should deal with it right now though. I know you say 'handful? That's nothing!' but I'm speaking more in relative to our current gaming population. A handful of people is like 15% the population currently. Banning all the diseases would be a bit odd (I.E. Plague which I feel is an OK name).

Would that work?

To even the load, I can take over the system following guidelines to lessen the burden for which we find reasonable or tolerable. Plague -is- an okay name, just not DIRECT offenses y'know? This is just bias from my end, which i'm trying to see 20 different perspectives and collaborate into one hive mind.

This issue is not a problem for me, since I do not make offensive names, and people with names that are offensive to me... well I just think, "what an idiot" and move on.
We all have different tolerances though.

It will very hard and controversial to list all possible things that can offend the community in general. Plus, it might be even harder to police compliance to rules - and failure to do that might create a feeling of injustice, if some thing that "someone is getting away".

it isn't hard to create a list, which is in the works for a blacklist, however for current existing, that can be escalated and handled one person at a time I believe.

Correct, and I that's the fine line with that word in particular; from terminal to astrological to a derivative of meaning alike most.

I registered my complaint against the name and was summarily dismissed for it, so I've ceased trying to explain it.

I also raised a complaint about it but I am accepting of what Staff deems appropriate or not. Clearly some people feel more passionate about this than others. Having read the entire thread though I am unsure why some people are being negative in a mockingly way. Everyone in this thread can go around all day and say "Well it doesn't hurt my feelings so fuck everyone else!" but that won't solve anything. Yes, we get it - Cancer is an astrological sign and an incurable ailment. Yes Bitch is a female dog but also a derogatory name for a person(most notably a female). You can't even use "Negro" in a name and that is BLACK in Spanish. So why isn't this normalized across the board? If you want AIDS to be fine, then why isn't Negro available for naming or BITCH? It is a very fine line and should be taken seriously, especially if at some point this game wants to make some kind of monetary compensation.

I believe that a ticket system IS the best case. That way it can be ran through a council/staff whatever(NH having the final say of course). Things are always going to pop up like this, and even with a rock solid system people find ways to bypass things. I feel that this post was done with good intention and heart and I am disappointed that some people would resort to name calling or degrading other fellow humans for just wanting to make people feel comfortable.

A lot of people play games as a safe space or another reality to escape within. I'm sure that seeing terrible things like those mentioned would be a turn off to them. Everyone hurts, people period just get hurt by different things. Look out for your brothers & sisters, don't tear them down. Opinions are great when used constructively. Just keep that in mind, please.

Actually it does and will offend a lot of people who think their whining is justified because of the culture of social justice that's been going around lately, yourself included (whether it actually is justified or not is irrelevant). A lot of the way you've been typing in this thread is outwardly rude or hostile, why should anyone want to listen to what you have to say or have you be the one to draw up a censor list?

I'm advocating for the ticket system as a way to deal with names deemed unacceptable, but I also feel it would be best to have the tickets be transparent. What I mean by this is allowing us normies to see what specifically name-related complaints are. If this can be done anonymously so people aren't worried about being targeted for reporting a name, all the better. I just don't want a situation to appear where Name A was rejected but Name B wasn't and now Name A is brigading against everyone.
