A system wide shame message could be effective in a way. "Killa just murdered a baby" for example.

Would have the opposite effect against trollers. People who want to kill would want to see how many time they can spam the system :P

Also from level 8 until 24 a person would not know what level their victim is.

Some of the ideas here are good:

The level difference one (10 as Thi suggested seems good or the you can only get pk'd from 16th onwards from Folder. Esp, since as NH pointed out the best healing spell for level 15 is Jurgen).

The new account one (from Zyloch) immunity for 10 hours (although I would lengthen it to 3 days or something) seems good too.

/nopk is also a good idea (from Metzger) but I would suggest making it so that they gain less exp (since there is less danger for them - think arenas).

A cooling of period is also a good idea (not sure if this one was mentioned specifically, if not it is an adaptation of KILLA's maximum amount of times a person can be pk'd idea... or was it the pk'er can only kill x amount of time a day? meh whatever). Basically a person can only be pkd once an hour (or some such) then their immune (god protects blah blah message maybe).

Ardrahz criminal suggestion is ok. Adaptations for this (not so keen though too fiddly, but kinda more realistic? Fallout 2/Baldurs Gate inspired):
Region specific reputation system (probably more programming to set up regions - also if you were to set up regions... well acting against one region may make you more popular in another).
Increases to the cost of shop boughts for that character (easy to get around though, possibility to make it account linked, but that would be bad rp).
No quests until debt is paid or timer run down (reduce rewards?)... There is an idea, you get stopped at the gates and can only enter when you pay of your bounty?
Or you can enter the town but people won't talk to you (until cool off/bounty is removed).
Possibility of bounty hunters being sent after you (level linked).

Lets get a poll going maybe, although in this case maybe more than one idea could be implemented?

PS. Definitely no bounty system though (unless as NH suggests it is player contributed although even then it can be exploited) to open for exploitation.
PPS. This became a rambling/brainstorming incoherent mess, apologies.
Disclaimer: Any ideas I come up with may not even meet my approval. I am just posting an idea based on the topic I have just read.

Upping the divine protection to 14 seems to be the fairest solution for everyone, with your level up to 15 being when it ends. By then, you have a good understanding of how your class works, most of your skills, and access to decent gear, as well as having been exposed to enough of the player base to know who to avoid.

Allowing those level 8-14 to fight each other too would be a nice option, since the way soulbinding works cuts down in the issue of twinking characters by a hell of a lot. Or make divine protection a toggle, you can choose to turn it off at 8 and go it alone with no way to turn it back on, or it automatically turns off at 15, again with no way to turn it back on.

Sounds good and yea letting 8-15 might be a good idea seeing drop stealing could become a thing with no way to defend against it.

Make it so there's a level gap for people to be able to fight, like, you can only fight people that are 10 levels away from yours and then you avoid having lvl 25s one rounding lowbies, cause when they go for 15s if they get a lucky BS they could get a kill otherwise the lvl 15 might be able to run away.

Level 15 cleric still has aid I believe and if not a good round of heals. So you can just party with them and no one can kill your heals. It breaks pvp tbh. Anything higher than level 12 imo can do too much to ruin world pvp as we know it.

I don't think your idea would be a working strategy for one simple reason, fizzle rate will screw the lowbies cleric, anyhow I dont think it will make a huge impact.

If you're that concerned with it, NH can also program into it that they can't heal a player that's in a fight in which the range is out of his level range.

Honestly tho, 25s can handle themselves versus each other, the issue still lies in 25s exploiting lowbies.

I dont see it an issue at higher levels though, as they could virtually do it now because it involves grabbing and going. The NPCs in the area should killa level 15 dead/fast though.

At lower levels I could see it maybe being an issue, but I'm not so sure. Level 10-15 isn't such a great time to be sneaking around though. Eventually though I could so something like level 10-15 could PK other level 10-15 but I know people would make level 15 chraacters just to spite that, is the real issue.

After all, a level 15 character vs a level 10 character to a level 25 char vs a level 20 char is the same thing.

eventually I wanted to look at a dropthing in which only the killer can grab the item for like the first 5 seconds. I'm not sure about doing this for all of the game, but maybe it would work in those lower levels. But truthfully as it is even I don't see so much a risk atm.

Not sure I like that idea Chris (the drop thing) but that's an entirely different discussion!

I like the idea of a new account being flagged for so long (10hrs was mentioned)

But I'd go with 24hrs and a warning message at intervals, when the account is created they get a message saying (You have created a new account, you will be shielded from player killing for 24hrs, if you attack someone during this 24hr period you will lose your shield)

Then a reminder at 12hrs that they have 12hrs before they lose their shield

Then a final 1hr reminded that shield will drop

I know someone will say, well people will just create a new account and transfer their alts to it to be protected

Easy fix, make it so a new account still shielded from nopk cant not transfer or recieve transfers from other accounts.

Problem solved. 24hrs is plenty of time for them to learn how the world works and with the warning messages at the intervals, they cant say they weren't warned.
