The Bless Mechanic

Postby Yue » Wed May 04, 2016 11:29 am

Hey guys,

I was thinking that maybe we could have a slightly different mechanic for Bless.
I thought it was tedious to have to 'deck' an item and go fetching after all the blesses.

I figured that perhaps, instead of having all 5 blesses, an item could have ONE bless
And this bless would give a slight div bonus on the item.

I think this allows for a greater deal of strategy.

I also have to think if it would be better to have a static bless (meaning that once you bless an item you can't change it anymore) or you can always change the bless of your item according to your needs.

Let me know your thoughts!

You lost me at "div bonus". That only ever went badly on ROK, and I have no interest in seeing it try to go badly here, too.

Blesses were only tedious to obtain for newbies, just about everyone else either had blessers of their own or access to a friend or clan's blessers. If we want to make it more newbie friendly (and that should be a primary concern with any mechanics, new or old, if we want to have more than the couple dozen people left on ROK near the end), blesses should be purchasable at temples on low level store bought items.

Why would it go badly if its a spell that is widely accessible? I am not saying that Bless has to be rare or rarer than the current spell availability.

All 5 blesses add a +5/+5 to weapons. I'm proposing to have that same +5/+5... but only for a specific div. This is meant for me to actually have to choose a bless before I go to a mosh or go out OADing or PKing.

Even with it being widely available, I'm still wary of including any kind of items with div bonuses on them. Div weapons just leave a bad taste in my mouth after all the nonsense that went on with them on ROK.

I think div weapons are fine, but I'm not wanting super values or anything, small bonuses are fine if they are ever added (I.E. 5% and such.) I think div weapons brought a bit of diversity, but this post really isn't about that so we can talk about them another day.

I'm not a huge fan of giving a bigger bonus to one div like this because it really makes it hard to balance. Obviously a fire character will use the fire div. If you include the base 15%, plus another +5, it could be pretty high. I get your idea, but doing it this way sounds like it would (if we want to in the future) ruin divinity items because the div bonus would already be rather high.

I mean you could, instead of doing +1/+1 per bless, do something like 2% more damage per div type on the item. Would kinda be similar though except if you didn't have the blesses on a specific target you'd miss out on a little bit of DPS.

I like needing multiple clerics. I know you guys might think it might of been a pain, but I think people had to get these characters in order to do it, or pay people to do it. Makes more characters and all divs useful in this case, at least for awhile. And also gives people some profit doing so. 'Being lazy' isn't a reason to remove something, unless its extremely annoying to deal with.

If your intent is to make Bless a temporary spell I don't like the idea whatsoever. Personally I had no issue with decking an item. It gives you something to work up to and that comes with it's own set of goals to strive toward. As for separate additional div bonuses it's too early in my mind to be thinking of things like that however it could totally be a feature of the game down the line where you can work for (a set of pain in the ass AQ's perhaps?) or purchase the div bonus in some respect be it a scroll or something.

I'm a fan of multiple blesses too. It did make it a little harder for newbies but it doesn't take long to find a clan that's helpful enough with this.

Different from blessing, what if there was a special drop that can coat a weapon and grant lets say a small div bonus, like 2%. Only one can be coated on the weapon, and its similar to having lets say, a small div bonus. So you could have a 'fire scarab blade'. So kind of a mix of what we talked about.

You cant base the old div system with this one. The last one was a mess. I want to simplify it.
