Norton Security Suite

Postby Kruell » Fri Jun 24, 2016 3:18 pm

There are two issues I have ran into when trying to install the game on a system using Norton Security Suite. The first is that it doesn't recognize the program and since the autoupdater is so new it tries to force you to delete it. The second is that it will stop the game update and delete the autoupdater no matter what you say. This is a conflict/flaw with the way Symantec recognizes and deals with new threats. There is pretty much nothing Nitehawk can do to solve this issue.

Eventually enough people will use the program that Symantec products will recognize it. For now this is how you have to install the game:
Download the zipped autoupdater but do not open the file.
You will need to Right Click on your Norton Icon in the taskbar and choose Disable Auto Protect. I suggest you disable it for 30 minutes in case your installation is slow.
After about one minute, Unzip the autoupdater in the directory you want to install the game and simply run.
Depending on your version of windows you may need to confirm that you want to run the program.

Using this method, the game should install and run fine for you. When the game updates, you may have to disable the Auto Protect again. If your SONIC subsystem still deletes the autoupdater then I suggest a reboot and try those steps again.

In relation to submission [3967028].

Upon further analysis and investigation we have verified your submission and, as such, the detection(s) for the following file(s) will be removed from our products:

Filename: AutoUpdater.exe
MD5: 2664F52EC7328A0703BFB68C1900293D
SHA256: FD1782C0C48CC8EC12BBEAA61E73A4F73305B9A071F30B860B5102F75748AED1
Result: Whitelisting for above file is taking effect from now on.

Does it actually work now without issues?

I wonder if I ever have to update the autoupdater, I'll probably have to do it again though. I'll eventually do one final modify then submit and get it set before I release that.

It is accepting it now. It does block the connection at first as Norton does an internal update with the different modules, but it just delays the connection for about 30 seconds before it allowed it.

McAfee accepts it fine. I'll Install it on a Kapperspy computer later. I know AVG and AVAST have yet to block it. These are just the antivirus/firewalls I have on my computers. Hopefully if someone else has a problem they will post about it. Thanks

I am using Kaspersky and I didn't have to whitelist the application or anything for it to update. Currently running Kaspersky Total Security 16

Avast never argued with the game itself, but it threw a hissy fit over the mapper. It was quite funny.
