ive been thinking about a way to make the replayability of oads a little more interesting and while the +1 system is great once an oad is out for a while supply kind of takes over demand and people stop being interested in the oad. Well what if you had a simple system of upgrading those oads to +1 versions yourself. I played a game a while back and this kept the economy in check.
Here's how it would work.
You would need an upgrade item (humming orb or something) and you would apply that to the item. Thing is you would have say a 25% if succeeding and if you failed you broke the item and lost the stone as well.
Things like cost of stone maybe even level of stone need more costly for higher level items? Or just keep it simple and 1 stone. The chance to succeed or fail all that crap could be changed but this is just a general idea for a gold sink and supply and demand control.
For those who want to run an oad over and over they in the long run have a better chance at getting a better item type deal.
Upgrading items?
Re: Upgrading items?
How about combining duplicates of the item to upgrade it
i.e. combine 3 dracoskins to get a +1 dracoskin, combine 7 to get a +2 draco, and combine 12 to get a +3 draco
The lore reaosning could be something about combining the best parts of the armours to produce 1 improved version.
You could also include a gold requirement if you wanted it to be a gold sink, or potentially include a quest/oad item, like the stone you described, as a way to limit it further if you wanted
Edit to add:
If this did go ahead you'd have to think how each item would be impacted by this, i.e. if you combine a buncha crap swords do you end up with something better than the best oad sword? does this lead to most people not running the top end oad any longer?
You could always limit it so only certain items could be combined?
I think one of the best parts of this, is it could be introduced quickly through the current quest system without any additional coding required?
Edit 2:
You could always turn it into a more fuller crafting system using the quest system
4 * dracos + one special quest stone + 40k gold + an onyx plate = +1 dracos?
then 4 * "+1 dracos" + 3 special quest stones + 120k gold + 3 onyx plates = +2 dracos?
i.e. combine 3 dracoskins to get a +1 dracoskin, combine 7 to get a +2 draco, and combine 12 to get a +3 draco

Re: Upgrading items?
yasssss. We've brought this up before!
Keep it simple though. I like the idea of combining multiple OaDs as it gets rid of a large number of them and promotes farming.

Re: Upgrading items?
While they basically accomplish the same thing (an item and gold sink). What I'm suggesting has a random factor and the other has a set amount of items to "upgrade". I prefer the random factor just because I've seen it in play and enjoyed it more (im a gambling man) than the other but they pretty much do the same thing.
Your right the giving multiple to a quest giver could be done now but I feel like that's a mess if you would do it for every item plus as far as I know you can't make humming items so it would still need a bit of code? Also if you give a decked item the game would know to give you a decked back so there is coding on both sides?

Re: Upgrading items?
Decking is kinda irrelevant, it's cheap and easy.
Either way requires code to make a humming item as far as I know.
I think the progression of going +1/+2/+3 with a great number of items combined is healthier for the game because it means people will be out there farming longer. If you just do the random chance thing people might get an upgrade first time and be done with it. Of course you could make the stone itself hard to obtain, but then I think it just feels bad if you try and fail. I'm faaaar more inclined to enjoy knowing that I am making progress on something, even if it requires 12 void blades. If obtaining an upgrade item is hard, and you use it on a difficult oad, and then you lose both? No. Just no lol.

Re: Upgrading items?
I for sure wouldn't have you toss in a bunch of items and still have a chance to lose them but here is a few points to why I like the 1 item thing.
Less storage needed. Like you were saying for the top tier it might make sense to have to trade in 12+ items for the next tier plus a stone. While it would suck storing them in vault you would also run into at a point inability to trade them inn from you inventory while you could always just lower the success rate and never run into that.
Also i like the gambling side meaning you could just take your chances and with one 1 get lucky and upgrade then again it can always go the other way as well.
Moving off that last point you could have stones change the chance. Meaning maybe a minor humming stone would give you a 10% chance to succeed while a major might be 25% ther would be cost difference and stuff.
Also for moving to +2 or +3 tiers and collecting you might end up with 20 some items in your vault before you get a chance with all the combos of reg and +1 items in your vault before you get a chance.
With all that said anything would be Cools

Re: Upgrading items?
My grandpaw always said, give it a kiss, keep it simple stupid...
3 gives you plus one
3 plus one give your plus 2
Store would have to be built for it to work
Not to mention the programing required to implement it
Current amount online isn't worth the trouble atm

Re: Upgrading items?
Just thought of something
how about you /salvage an item which would always destroy the item, but you have a chance of obtaining the materials needed to upgrade another set of dracos to +1, etc.?
i.e. you /salvage in an armour shop or weapon shop to break the item into parts, i.e. breaking apart a void blade would give you a random chance of getting a void blade hilt, void blade pommel, void blade edge, or just destroying the item without getting a part
you'd then need all 3 of those void blade parts plus another void blade to upgrade a void blade?
Would promote trade, introduce crafting, give reasons to keep running oads, etc.
The idea might need some refinement as i wrote this in a rush

Re: Upgrading items?
Or salvage into embers, green weapon green ember, purple weapon purple ember, to upgrade your favorite weapon.

I like this but I feel like it overly complicates things. You would need to create a salvage part for every equipment in game. Then not only that but players would have to store all those parts and keep track of them :/
