Ranger Pet Reset/Ranger XP Boost/Ranger Specific Event/Etc
Re: Ranger Pet Reset/Ranger XP Boost/Ranger Specific Event/Etc
What is the health of your pet, btw, and what pet as well? I only tested them at level 25 but there could be an issue at lower levels. I'm interested to know though.

For myself I got a lumbering bear, which is lvl10. I actually tried taming this a number of times when I was 14 but always failed. Range friend tamed one and gave it to me, which spurred my comment about lower lvl tames.
Not at my PC now so can't give pet stats but I can update tonight. IIRC it had about 375HP, but don't quote me.

Well lumbering bear with about 20 char is about 15% tame rate if you are level 10 and half without char. They are meant to be overall harder but I'm not sure why a level 10 pet is that low. I need to pull up the charts later on and check. Generally the 'idear' was that level 1-10 were higher, but maybe its that frogs/etc are at the very high tame rates. Dunno, I'll give it a looking still.
Most pets even caught now can compete with higher level pets though, Often lower level pets will have more armor/etc because of scaling vs a pet that has very little scaling. Isn't the case with all, but yeah.
Pets in the 22-24 range are fairly harder, probably 5%-10% tame rate depending on char.
Re: Ranger Pet Reset/Ranger XP Boost/Ranger Specific Event/Etc
I remember suggesting ages ago about pets for sale in rangers guilds (or the ranger camp). Maybe make them weaker than the wild variety so they could be a stop gap measure until you can actually tame something.
Or
You could even have a pet choice at level 8 (maybe also weaker than the wild variety, could say that it is weaker than normal in the text when pet is chosen). It could be added to the levelling text for when a character gains the Ranger class title: "Now that you are now officially a ranger, you can now tame wild animals as pets. I hear [insert name here] from [insert location here] has a pet for newly promoted Rangers, why don't you go speak to him." That could be done through a quest by speaking to the chap (no reward other than the pet - and off course the warning that this pet is not as powerful as the kind of pets you will find in the wilds).
The pet items scaling idea... not so keen on that, but there could be level ranks for pet equipment like you have for characters?
Pet item drops, good idea. Does not need to be a boss, could just be from monsters the same as any other drop.

I like the pet quest idea, I think that would be smart unless we up the tame chance for lower levels (why a low lvl tame is at 15% or lower I don't understand at all).

Yea I'm thinking you should start with a pet have it given or have a super high catch rate for the first few levels.
Re: Ranger Pet Reset/Ranger XP Boost/Ranger Specific Event/Etc
Level 16 now, impressions so far:
-haven't changed pets since getting a bear at lvl10. His stats:
[10:01] Nickname: Bearhands Efficiency: 91%
[10:01] NPC Name: Lumbering Bear Level: 16
[10:01] Race: Animal Divinity: Earth
[10:01] Hitpoints: 430(96) Per Lvl: 26.9(6)
[10:01] Armor: 58(20) Damage: 36-60(6)
[10:01] Dodge Agi: 13 Atk Agi: 14(-2)
[10:01] Int: 11 Wis: 14
[10:01] Infra: 1 Spell Neg: 0
[10:01] Attack Delay: 1.09-2.18 Exhaust: 12
[10:01] Max Attacks: 2 Taunt Lvl: 3
[10:01] Upgrades: Titanium Gear, Chain Armor
-his damage is crap and he takes a ton of damage as well. questing in kakegi atm (which, sidenote, terrible xp per mob) and I have to heal him 1-2 times a round. It would likely be faster to not use a pet, defeating the entire purpose of a pet class.
-Yarrow leaves lol fucking delete these.
-Arrows are dumb, I hate them. I know NH you want to do cool things with them in the future but actually playing the class they are just a burden imo.
Suggestions:
-Make lower lvl pets easier to tame (and make higher lvl pets better by comparison, reduce scaling maybe?).
-Increase pet survivability by either 1) increasing pet heals (my choice) or 2) make them take less damage in the first place.
-Pet damage is fine tbh but because they need so many heals they end up being more of a problem than fun to play with. I want to play a pet class, I don't want to spam heals on my pet to keep it alive while it slowly does all the work.
-We need tame variety. Are there any caster tames, like at all in the entire game?
-Delet yarrows. Seriously just get rid of this. We're already making rangers carry arrows, making them carry extra items is NOT FUN AT ALL. Yes you can say lol but ur heals are better. Yes, but you don't want to sacrifice fun and make something a constant nuisance.
edit: forgot to say can we make CHR be the pet heal stat? INT is basically impossible to get on a ranger as you need to max str/agi/end/chr.

Re: Ranger Pet Reset/Ranger XP Boost/Ranger Specific Event/Etc
using a :
Nickname: Bzzzzzzzz Efficiency: 91%
[10:45] NPC Name: Dragonfly Level: 16
[10:45] Race: Insect Divinity: Ice
[10:45] Hitpoints: 387(96) Per Lvl: 24.2(6)
[10:45] Armor: 38(20) Damage: 51-60(15)
[10:45] Dodge Agi: 18 Atk Agi: 10(-4)
[10:45] Int: 13(-2) Wis: 13
[10:45] Infra: 9(8) Spell Neg: 0
[10:45] Attack Delay: 1.09-2.18 Exhaust: 11(1)
[10:45] Max Attacks: 2 Taunt Lvl: 2
[10:45] Spell: breath (100%)
[10:45] Upgrades: Tungsten Gear, Chain Armor, Breath Spell, Novelty - Divinity Glow Description
results in much better damage output. I tried higher INT and lower +DMG (20 INT, resulted in about 25 DMG because of the -DMG on gear) but all that did was lower my pet's DMG accordingly. INT doesn't seem to affect their damage much?

Re: Ranger Pet Reset/Ranger XP Boost/Ranger Specific Event/Etc
I do agree they are a bit overly complicated compared to all the other classes. I do understand they are cool but maybe we could simplify a few things?
-Start with pets. (Maybe even depending on div)
-Pets should be easy to tame until say level 20?
50% at 8
40% at 15
25% at 20?
Bases on highest chr
-Base pet heal on chr (isn't bard heal on chr?)
-Have a spell like meditate for pet heal so it's pretty quick out of combat?
-Keep arrows but just make them a single equip. For example you wouldn't need to carry around stacks just equip one "sharp arrows" and that can be your modifier. You never run out this way we could maybe even introduce some arrow oads?
These few things would really simplify rangers without taking much depth away.

Re: Ranger Pet Reset/Ranger XP Boost/Ranger Specific Event/Etc
Didnt like arrows much myself tbh.
Still could use quivers for simulating arrows (I think this was mentioned ages ago). Make them a decent amount of money though. Then you could still do interesting stuff with "arrows". Less realistic I know but... eh...
Definelty think the higher the initial level of the pet the better it should be (even if only slightly), otherwise, whats the point in trying to tame a high level pet?
Caster pets get my vote too. Variation is nice.
