How about making all shop bought gear come unsb'd.
However all items 15th level or lower (maybe just white items) on a 15th level or lower alt will not drop. Does that make sense?
Basically Alts <= level 15 will not lose <= 15th level gear (could include potions and foods etc, maybe not gold?).
Or is this too care bear?
Eh... wait... Jadefalcon already said something similar...

I think it's a bit to carebear. It's a good middle ground to lose some items but not all, specially gear. It'll help prepare them a little more that way.

Why not base it purely on clan membership?
I create a clan and as the leader, I decide whether or not we will be PVP or PVE. You can only PVP if you're in a PVP clan. And yes, if your alt is in a PVP guild, you will be flagged PVP as well.

There was a similar situation in Revelation, right? If you wanted to PVP - you had clan wars. If you attack a person that you are not at war with, you turned Orange and when you die - you dropped your gold. Also, they used Karma system which added insane amounts of time to your respawn timer.

Another option could be flagging yourself as PVP/PVE. Either upon account creation - or let the player choose for themselves at level 16. "You've reached level 16 and unlocked PVP. Would you like to participate?" This would only occur for the first character and the answer would apply to every alt created thereafter.

Anywho - just food for thought. :)

At its core this is a PvP game. It needs to be there for the world to feel dangerous. It was changed to nopk until lvl16 and I think that that is more than enough. We didn't want new players being scared off by being ganked at lower levels, but after that you're fair game.

It would be too carebear imo if we have people not flagged for PvP. Let's stick with death and destruction :D.

I agree, I don't really want a fluffy game :P Unfortunately it might not be for everyone, but I think it's far more thrilling that way 8)

i dont think level has much to do with how much youve learned the game. fact is my gf tried the game this week got lvl 16 w/o ever leaving bitryn/seamoor and got pked by lvl 25s just camping church lol.

the grace period could be time oriented, maybe 100 logged in hours, it should also reveal that upon lookover.

or, taking an idea from another mud, your acct is graced until 1 character reaches a certain level, imo it should be 20, by then youve swapped gear 2x realise the game is heavily party oriented, been told how combat works, and probably need to trade/help completing level 20 items. learned about and even possibly tried a few different classes, etc. thats a decent grasp to me.

for instance when i started i killed bears north of bitryn for 5 hrs and was lvl 16 never did a quest or changed equipment, or was i even talked to lol. didnt know i couldnt be pked just straight up didnt know shit except what was on wiki which was about zilch.

I personally feel that lvl 16 is far too generous. I miss lvl 8 pking in RoK. Some of my best memories was trying to make it to the next town before Jette killed me. I really don't think we need more hand holding.

that's actually the desired result i was going for, after acct has so many hours logged or a lvl 20, the pk limit should be lowered to 8-12. but then again im not sure it matters.

i mean u shouldnt be able to run a lvl 8 to GY kill 5-7 mobs and be level 15 with no risk at all, but at the same time players shouldn't be hounding pk count on level 8s. in some ways i like the level 16 grace because its the only thing that promotes leveling to 25 to pk. the game is plenty small enough to find players amidst training, no sense in overkilling level 9s in bitryn.

im still kinda split on the topic, but i can tell you most new players know nothing by level 16, especially if they join a guild that just power levels them.

If they join a guild by level 16 thats GOOD. I know a few clans for example that guide them, they might not know anything, but they have SUPPORT/PROTECTION, FRIENDS, ETC. This is what I'd prefer. If everyone joined a guild before level 12 we wouldn't have to worry about newbies too much but this isn't the case. Easy to ask questions and get answers at that point, and most guilds are friendly and want numbers, they'll help. Only take a little bit to fully understand it I'd say.

Level 16 isn't alot though. It's 1/100th of your leveling, so I don't get what the biggest issue is there when poeple claim its too high. You won't spend that very long unless you're a new player. Level 16 on average is around 2.9-3.5million XP.

I don't want to set special things for 'set reasons', for example, first character gets level 20 protection. It would be very simple to make an account and abuse this system, and at that point it's around 25-30million, it's a bit high then. If people can abuse it, they will. There is no real method of avoiding this and I don't want to add another micromanaging thing where i have to ban people if they abuse the system.
