Tristan wrote:Well here we are. I played my way through the pally. My guild found me the First Spectral Scythe, and i worked 44 hours straight to get from 23-25. I had 12 hours with that beautiful weapon before it was changed to a 2 hander. However it brings up a good point to talk about. Guards need a little work. Smite is by far the worst spell in the game. The damage is laughable, (as in your better off just attacking) and the hit rate at lvl 25 was at best 1/3. Paladin and Guardians in lore are holy knights. If knights have the ability to drop their shield for a 2 hander, then why can't Paladins? Which brings me to the last point. I think the 2 hander right now is a bad idea. It incredibly boggles me that while there are no zerkers in the game, both the world drop a week ago, and the most powerful sword atm are both 2 handers, and no one can wield them... I also think they give classes stuck to the sword lower items to choose from. Even with the scythe equipped at 2hdr damage, i was barely even a threat to the ninja's i fought. That was with Full Heavy armor Capping at 77 ac with emerald helm and shield. We need this being said so that perhaps some balance can be given. This is just my experience from lvling to Guard. I fully understand the game is new, and takes time for things to catch up. However 80% of all characters are monks. Figure that one out.
Problem is half the people aren't testing anything but monks. The other thing is we don't have much on the heavy armor department. We are working on this though with the new areas. Monks need to be balanced though, they are overpowered right now, but I wanted to wait until we have more 25ers before we attempted to balance them. Armor on heavies should be around 100 though. Shields will deflect alot more when we get the proper ones IG. They should hopefully negate more damage to stay into the game though too. To be honest I think druids are better then monks but again, without proper gear it's hard to see this.
Paladins can't use two handers, that's how it's going to be. I understand it sucks that it was changed and our builders need to seriously test more before releasing, but it was not meant to be a one hander. The damage value of one handers aren't exactly there yet either. The actual one hander that is released is going to be stronger than the Spectral Scythe though I believe.
It's really hard to belance until we get OAD equiv things though. Monks are pretty much up there cause they get hand damage and AC. They are already close to max.
Smite is only meant for undead. It works on all but the damage is useless on anything but undead. You do need some sort of int though. With 16-18 int or around that it should deal higher than a sword should deal on undead. You will see the WRITING IN PAIN thing though. I did just adjust smite a bit, It has a easier time piercing undead now. I would say having 18 int would be like having 23 int. I have also increased the minimum damage by +2 as well.
This is your character on div now with the changes. This doesn't include AC or resists, but again, it should be better.

Even before the changes, the damage with smite isn't bad at all. Again weapons are going to be better, and then once that is in I might raise smite damage more, but I don't see the smite damage sucking, maybe the resistance was the only real problem, but I adjusted that now. I''m not too sure where you are coming off with the damage though for All spells get more accurate as you level because your level will be higher then the mob you are fighting on typically in the same area.
Again though it's hard to state stuff when alot of weapons/armors aren't in yet.
