Stat Roller

I enjoyed the stat roller, as it allowed us to do a mindless chore while playing. And it could be used for sale to other players, should you roll a 5-6 stat character. I've met many people over the years who enjoy doing just that to earn their gold. It could be a great addition to the game, as it once was, with the proper precautions.

Pretty sure this is never happening. I think this has been discussed a good bit already.

Yeah, this has been very firmly veto'd by NiteHawk on more than one occasion. The stat roller is entirely too easy to manipulate with auto rollers, and we won't be having any of that, thanks.

The problem is... stats matter. So.. I'm making a monk. And I go STR AGI END and CHA or WIS. .. or basically any class. Same shit. So now I have to choose. Do I want to instead put my points in CHA..for the extra HP(maybe..), WIS..to defend against mages.. or INT.. to defend against thieves. If we had a stat roller, then We could potentially be Great in all of those things without having to sacrifice. Also.. there are ways to prevent auto-rollers.

Stat rollers also aren't remotely friendly towards a new player who may just want to play casually. I never got into Nightmist, for example, because I didn't have enough patience to sit there for days or potentially even weeks to get a decent character just to be able to play, because at that point I'm no longer playing a game to amuse myself, I'm doing something unnecessarily tedious with my free time and I might as well be working.

I think it's also fair to say that some people (again myself included) that making sacrifices in stats is part of what makes your character unique. Think about the evolution of characters in rok, at some point -every- character is a 5 or 6 stat so there's zero variance.

I kinda like that I have to sacrifice MR for HP or my heals for more MR, you know?

That is the reason though I am trying to make all stats important, it gives uniqueness. In ROK there was no uniqueness because only some stats mattered. Having lots of stats important but not being able to max out everything means uniqueness amongst players depending on how they want their character to be.
