I was doing some brainstorming on character creation. I have some ideas of debatable quality.
Have all stats start at 10 (with an appropriate stat pool left over; this will easier then the next one below) OR
Have Prime Stats (2 or 3 stats) start at maximum for the race:
For example a Barbarian will start with their Prime stats (STR, END and probably AGL at max, the rest at 10). This one would require a lot of initial ground work.
Have a races maximum stats show beside the bit where you increase/decrease stats, with a * next to it, a footnote for the *
"*This is the maximum that the stat can be for your race, unless you +1 it (you can only +1 one stat and it comes at an extra cost to stat pool" or some such.
When a stat (the value) is at maximum it will be green, when it is +1'd it will appear blue (or whatever colour)
Stats ( sorta related to the primary stat thing above) could be coloured to show what is appropriate for the class, Prime stats in Blue, Secondary Stats in green... etc. Could be a footnote explaining this as well "Stats coloured Blue are recommended for your class"
Have Classes Highlighted in Green for popular choices specific to that race; ie Gnome will have sorcerer and necro in green text. Perhaps red for those considered poor choices.
Have div colour co-ordinated to the colour the temple appears on the map (I think something like this was mentioned for when you look over a character).

People raged at me when I started all stats at 10. I agreed with it, but alot of people didn't want to keep clicking all over so it ended up being middle stats.

We do have a system coming which you can get help for each race and class coming up too. I don't want to be specific and say GNOME HAS TO BE A SORC, because it doesn't. But having information about each class and race is a thing that is needed.
Some color coding can come into effect for the stats too.
The lookover can't be color coded right now as the text can't change color, it would change all text, not just one word there. It's not a RTF format and it won't be in this client. I was thinking about having a colored box around the player that does or doesn't require look around (I.E. Would be visible in the player list, doesn't have to be, could just be on look over) but I don't know how people would feel about that.

The stats starting at 10... must have been before I found the game. People raged at you? Shame on them! Meh, makes sense to me to have them start at 10... ah well each to their own I guess.
Well it is best not to say "you must be this class!", so yeh, let people see what class/es the race is considered best at and let them decide if they want to break the cookie mold.
Coloured text box sounds interesting, but maybe too easy? Might be best for the person to be looked over so you can see where his allegiance lays, make sense?
