Time to delegate

Postby Kruell » Wed Jun 08, 2016 11:51 pm

Love the little tweaks you are throwing in the game. Now though may be time for you to promote someone up to be in charge as the World Admin. Someone to coordinate lore, building, and handle staff issues. I've seen a few issues in the game that I've pointed out to some of the builders, things a World Admin would catch and stop. There are still some things that need attention that as the only coder, you probably won't have the time to watch.

For instance, the pathway to the second city is neither intuitive nor "friendly" for a level 8 character. With a low population, this isn't a problem because people help each other out. Later though you can bet people will get frustrated at losing their gold wandering around and getting plinked to death while lost. Builders are also using names that are copywriten. I had to stop builders a few times on RoK and Alura both from using things like Treant, Beholder, and a few others. A World Admin would have the authority to handle these things for you so you can focus on mechanics and not symantics.

You seem to have some good staff. Figure out who has the best handle on how things are supposed to be and then promote them. Now is the important time for things like that to be done... before a lot of stuff get's thrown in that doesn't jive with lore or is just horribly designed. Since there are others who have been here longer than me, I'm posting this as a topic to see if I'm the only one who thinks you need this.

 You could always hire me to be world admin but I think everyone else would quit.

I don't know if he needs someone to oversee build/world design till he has the framework and a long term development plan in place. From chatting with Nitehawk so far, it sounds like he's just using the current world to get things built from a systems perspective. I'd wager that everything in game right now will likely be replaced/refined as he progresses and hashes out his vision.

With that said, I'd strongly encourage Nitehawk to create a long-term development plan akin to a business plan. I'm not sure how much thought he has put into seeking out partners/funding, but I think it'd be great to not have the success of EO be on volunteers like RoK's was. We live in an age where funding indie games has become a lot easier, thankfully.

Once I get a new client (waiting on the files) I will see about what we can do for the game regarding that. I think the world is pretty set in terms of how it's being designed, but there is going to be alot of tweaks done (refined for sure) as we change or add things to the game that might be useful in X or Y area.

For a head builder, right now there is already one or two people who have taken up charge. I'll make the title more permanent later, but the current build team actually work very well together and I think it's pretty understood between them and the visions they have 8)

It is good youve got peons to give the manual labour too. Just dont spare the whip, unless they like to be whipped... then spare it.
