Not sure if this has been suggested before.
But how about a merchant or market stall that spawns random items for sale.
It could have x # of items chosen from a list, repeat items means it will have more than one in stock.
A good use for money and an alternative way to find an item instead of from creature drops.
The stock could be refreshed every x amount of hours.
You can also sell your items here and they stay in the stock until the stock is refreshed (sb'd and bound ones dissapear).

I'd suggest a set number for the day from reset time.
Good idea though, I want to buy some random food items with odd names not in game, POPCORN

Re: Merchant Pawnshop.
You could full on nick the idea from Fallout and have it as a wandering merchant with a donkey who moves around the world on a particular trade route =p
You could have people kill him to get some limited loot, or if people protected him you'd get a discount.
(Yes i just overcomplicated it)

Ohhh can he sell some chocolate also?

Re: Merchant Pawnshop.
An idea that would be pretty cool is people can take stuff to that merchant and the merchant can sell what you bring him and give you the gold for what someone bought it for. or there could be a way not only to do that but also have it set up so people can trade threw the merchant
Re: Merchant Pawnshop.
@ tonk That would be an auction house and would be done a little different.
